Again, there are thousands of known supplements out there on the market, but truthfully, a lot of these are just no good and you really need the ones that work.  I can tell you that protein supplements would be one of those that does work and if you combine this with weight gainer supplements and creatine, these are really what you need to start off with and gain some serious muscle.

Of course there are different types of protein supplements out there, I am going to focus on whey protein supplements and casein protein supplements.

Whey Protein Supplements

Whey protein supplements are the most superior forms of protein supplements around as it has the highest biological value (BV) as compared to other protein supplement sources.  Whey protein supplements are the supplements you would take before, during and after your workouts because these supplements absorb readily into your body and help your muscles recover quickly.  There are different levels of whey protein supplements depending on the quality of the protein.

Of course, everything comes down to the amount you would spend for the quality you want.  On the lower end of the whey protein supplements chain are the Whey Protein Concentrate Supplements.  This form of whey protein supplement contains up to about 75% protein and includes a slight amount of fat and cholesterol.

On the high end of the totem pole are the prized forms of whey protein supplements, the whey protein isolates, which contain up to about 90%+ protein and based on the filtration process, most of the fat and cholesterol removed.     Finally, there is another type of whey protein supplements that fall in between, which is whey protein blends, a mixture of both whey protein concentrate and isolate.

Cassein Protein Supplements

Cassein protein supplements are used mostly before you go to bed as this type of protein absorbs very slowly into your body.  This form of protein can take a full 7 hours to absorb so it is best taken to maintain your muscle recovery and keep your body in an anabolic state throughout your sleep.  Cassein protein supplements do cost about the same amount as whey protein supplements or a bit more from my own experience with purchasing these protein supplements.

Both whey and casein protein supplements are derived from dairy products and it is safe to say that there should be no harmful side effects with the regular usage of these protein supplements. In fact, whey protein has been known to help boost the immune system as it works like an antioxidant. Regular intake of whey protein has been known to build a strong immune system and increase lean muscle mass and promote weight loss. With all these benefits, even if you aren’t into muscle building, whey protein supplements should be purely taken just for their health benefits and weight loss properties alone. So basically there you have it, one of the main forms of supplements you should take if you are on a budget.
